The Club at TwinEagles Earns
02/26/09 The Club at TwinEagles and director of golf course operations Jeff Burgoyne earned the highest chapter award in the private facilities category of the 2008 Environmental Leaders in Golf Award from the Golf Course Superintendents Association and Golf Digest magazine. The 14 chapter awards are presented annually to the golf course superintendent of a property that represents the highest level of commitment to environmental stewardship. The winners are selected from GCSAA's 101 affiliated chapters. TwinEagles is a master-planned community being developed in Naples by Bonita Bay Group.
"This year's winners are to be commended for their commitment to the environmental stewardship on the golf course," GCSAA President David S. Downing II, CGCS, said. "They, along with their facilities, have demonstrated that golf courses can be compatible with the environment, and in many cases enhance it."
Award entrants were judged in five categories: water management; resource conservation; integrated pest management; wildlife/habitat preservation; and education/outreach. Each category required documentation of sustainability, criticality, originality and the technology used. The award will be presented to Burgoyne on Feb. 5 during GCSAA's Education Conference held in conjunction with the Golf Industry Show in New Orleans.
"We are very proud that the GCSAA and Golf Digest have recognized The Club at TwinEagles, Jeff Burgoyne and his team with this prestigious award," said Kitty Green, president/CEO of Bonita Bay Group.
The 2008 Environmental Leaders in Golf Award is Bonita Bay Group's third. The company also earned Golf Digest's 2002 ELGA for Mediterra and in 1999 for its flagship community, Bonita Bay.
